I offer private piano lessons at my home studio in South End Green, NW3.

I have two pianos, so teacher and student can play together; and I can also accompany, on the drums, students who are playing jazz or improvising.

I have been working as a Music Teacher since 2004, and as Piano Tutor since 2008.

I trained to be a teacher at the London Institute of Education and obtained my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) in secondary music in 2005, and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) in 2006.

For teaching TO PLAY I use foremost the Suzuki Piano Method*.

Where desired, I also follow the ABRSM Piano grades and ABRSM Jazz Piano grades; and enter and prepare students for their exams. The sight-reading and scales attendant upon preparing for grades are a good complement to the Suzuki material. And Jazz, with its special components of rhythm, harmony and improvising, is a great counterpart to classical music.

I aim to expand the repertoire with selections of other Classical, Jazz, Boogie and Blues music; as well as some individual-style improvising.

For teaching TO READ I use Piano Adventures, Fletcher's, and other books, depending on the student's level and age and interest. Other options include John Thompson, or the Russian School of Piano. I also teach Theory. (It will be necessary to achieve Grade 5 theory before passing Grade 6 Piano).

Students normally perform in a public recital (to their peers and the group of parents) once a term. Becoming comfortable with playing in public is an important and very beneficial asset to develop for a musician. Students who are coming to the end of a Suzuki Book will be encouraged to perform the entire book from memory. Throughout the piano education a great importance is attached to the maintaining of, and being able to perform one's Repertoire.

Lessons are £35 for an hour. Alternative fees can be arranged for shorter lessons, or longer lessons; and lessons involving siblings. You are welcome to contact me to discuss your requirements.

I'm afraid that starting from September 2017 I will no longer do home visits.

*PLEASE NOTE: I am not officially a trained Suzuki Teacher; and am not part of the Suzuki group. Please apply to the British Suzuki Institute if you are looking for an official, fully-qualified Suzuki Teacher.
